With a strong preference for the sea, I have been
photographing the lighthouses, wildlife and general landscape
of the New England coast for almost 20 years. During this time,
I have enjoyed the pursuit of my subjects by foot, bicycle, motorcycle,
kayak, a wide range of boats and various aircraft.
Over the past two decades, I have been photographing
the stations, boats and aircraft of the United States Coast Guard.
Having observed firsthand the dedicated efforts of the men and
women that staff these units, I have a tremendous respect and
admiration for the roles they play in keeping our coastal waters
safe.
Since 1991, I have had the privilege of being the
official photographer of the Flying Santa program. This New England
holiday tradition was started back in 1929 by Maine float plane
pilot William Wincapaw to show appreciation to the dedicated
lighthouse keepers and Coast Guard crews stationed along the
coast. The tradition was carried on for over four decades by
maritime author and historian Edward Rowe Snow. Today the annual
helicopter visits are faithfully maintained by the Friends of Flying Santa. In addition to my
photography duties, I am also the current president of the Friends
board of trustees.
Some photos are posted here for general interest.
Not necessarily for their artistic value. All images are available
for purchase, whether as matted prints, website illustration,
calendar, book or general stock photography uses. I am still
in the process of posting a number of my photos. If you do not
see the subject you are looking for, feel free to ask. I may
have a related image or two still waiting in my files. Special
requests are also considered. As I travel about, I may be in
the area of a specific subject that you are looking for.
In any case, I hope you enjoy viewing the photos on
my site and invite you to check back as I continue to post more
Images of the New England Coast.
